Voices: Jim Rex

State Superintendent of Education, at a June 21, 2007 roundtable discussion

[Intellectually disabled] young people need post-secondary experiences at colleges and universities, and the colleges and universities need them. I worry about a growing sense of segregation and elitism within our current university system. We need more tolerance and diversity. These [college and university] kids today have a great sense of idealism, compassion and passion without an outlet. I am afraid that if they don’t get it in college or at the universities, they won’t get it.
