Barbara has spent over 40 years in the field of education and special education. She has taught students in the second grade through high school. She has been involved in regular and special education teacher training at the undergraduate and graduate levels at The College of William and Mary, the University of Virginia and The Citadel. While in Virginia she also was the state coordinator for services to deaf and blind individuals. For a number of years she was involved in federally funded research projects addressing the needs of students with handicaps, especially those involved with the juvenile justice system. Her most recent endeavors have been to create and administer transition programs for a regional medical center, a police academy and in a university setting.
She is the parent of three daughters and has four grandchildren. Working with CTC returns Barbara to her original calling in education. She began her career as a teacher and counselor for students with developmental disabilities, continuously advocating for acceptance of their abilities to reach far beyond what society has allowed or accepted.
